Peter’s Creek was settled in the 1950’s by World War II veterans. Today, the area is rapidly growing. Chugiak was the original name of the area. It means “place of many places”.

Although Peter’s Creek is a rural community, nearby Anchorage is a big economic competitor in the transportation, cargo, and oil industries. This is because the area is warmed by the Pacific Ocean and protected the Chugach Mountains. Even on the shortest winter days, there is an average of nearly six hours of daylight.

Annual Precipitation and Snowfall
An average of 79 inches of snow falls in the area every year. This creates a wonderful winter wonderland. The average rainfall is just over 16 inches a year.

Peter’s Creek falls within the Anchorage School District. The Anchorage neighborhood elementary schools offer a well-rounded top quality education. An emphasis is placed on writing, reading, listening, and speaking. Science, mathematics, health, social studies, art, music, and P.E. are also part of the curriculum.

Neighborhood middle schools provide a structure and environment specifically catered to the middle school student. Students are placed in teams whose teachers provide core academic subjects. Students have access to a variety of elective programs, as well.

Neighborhood high schools group students into personalized smaller learning communities. Core curriculum teachers and specialist teachers are utilized for focused interventions and exploratory learning. There are a number of other alternative educational programs, as well. These include charter schools, world language programs, and career and technical education.

The University of Alaska in Anchorage is the state’s largest campus. It offers education in fields ranging from construction to medicine. Students are prepared for high-demand careers in culinary arts, construction, and transportation through the Community and Technical College. The university is an affiliate of the University of Washington School of Medicine. They offer a collaborative medical school agreement among the states of Wyoming, Washington, Alaska, Idaho, and Montana. There are other options as well. Alaska Pacific University, the only private liberal arts university in the state, is located in Anchorage.

Discover the Glaciers
The Peter’s Creek area offers plenty of opportunities to visit Alaska’s glaciers. Visitors can see the glaciers by plane, boat, behind a team of dogs, or even on foot. Alaska offers several superb restaurants with gorgeous views of nearby glaciers. You can spend the day exploring glaciers of Prince William Sound. Or visit Portage Glacier and listen for the unique cracking sound that rises to a rumbling climax as ice drops off the face of the glacier and crashes into the water below.

Visit the Matanuska-Susitna Valley
Check out the Matanuska-Susitna Valley where vegetables grow to huge sizes. Due to the immense amount of summer sunlight and fertile farmland, world-record sized vegetables are displayed annually at the Alaska State Fair.

Visit H20 Oasis, a huge indoor water park located in nearby Anchorage. This water park offers a tropical setting all year round. Families will love all of the exciting activities available at the water park, including a wave pool, lazy river, and a children’s lagoon and pirate ship. The water park even offers water exercise classes and tanning.

Perfect Your Golf Game
The Tanglewood Golf Dome features an indoor driving range with 40 indoor driving stalls. It is split between two levels. There is a PGA Tour golf simulator. Professional golf instructors are available for lessons. The green beneath is also used as an athletic field. It features soccer, batting cages, a running track. It can even be reserved for grazing placid herds of cocker spaniels.
