The town of Eagle River sits in a prime location along the Glenn Highway, about one-third of the way from Anchorage to Wasilla. Situated near the entrance of Chugach State Park, Eagle River is surrounded on three sides by snowcapped mountains. The town is technically part of Anchorage, although it is far enough from the downtown area that it contains a multitude of shopping services for owners of Eagle River properties. The area has seen a great deal of development since the opening of the Glenn Highway and continues to grow rapidly thanks to the low cost of Eagle River homes.
Despite being part of the Borough of Anchorage, Eagle River maintains a distinct community spirit. Owners of Eagle River homes have two high schools to choose from, Eagle River High School and Chugiak High School, as well as many continuing education options just down the road in Anchorage. The University of Alaska is opening a full-service branch campus in the area. This gives Eagle River properties prime access to the state's soon to be open premier research institution! A culture of lifelong learning is an important part of life up and down the Glenn Highway.
Eagle River Activities
In addition to annual community events like the Bear Paw Festival and the Highland Games, owners of Eagle River houses enjoy that added camaraderie that comes with serving their country. Many local residents are employed on nearby Elmendorf Air Force Base and smaller Fort Richardson, now known as JBER, either as armed forces personnel or civilian support staff. Most Eagle River Properties are also within an easy drive of the Eagle River Nature Center, which abuts Chugach State Park and has been nationally recognized as one of the country's premier municipal parks.
Eagle River Homescome in all shapes and sizes. The opening of the East Eagle River Loop helped in the development of the area. Several older subdivisions near the center of town feature tidy ranch-style and split-level houses that sell for well below the local average, while more expansive Eagle River properties in the forested subdivisions of Eklutna feature bigger, more modern homes on large lots. Many of these newer Eagle River houses are built at elevations to take advantage of the region's breathtaking views. Despite the ample supply of spacious new homes, development in the area has slowed down recently, increasing the value of already-built Eagle River properties and helping to keep traffic manageable.
Eagle River is Conveniently Located
Eagle River's convenient location between Anchorage and Palmer coupled with convenient access routes to the wilderness north and east of town have puts it in an ideal location. This area economy is centered around its military personnel. Some Eagle River homes can be had at bargain prices thanks to the occasional foreclosure. These properties sell quickly, so potential buyers are advised to check local listings daily!
